Have you ever had one of those days when you just felt like the day would never end? Of course not, right!? You're a rockstar Mom and nothing fazes you! WRONG! Anyone can put on a happy face and pretend like everything in life is just peachy. I have definitely had many days where the countdown to bedtime started before breakfast. There are some days where its just draining to hear your kids whine, or ask for more and more and more snacks! Sometimes I feel like I’m feeding a bottomless monster who somehow is NEVER satisfied.
“If only you had more time, more money, well behaved kids and a husband who helped out more around the house, then you would be happier.”
When you're busy and constantly pouring out and taking care of others it can be easy to become resentful of those loved ones that your taking care of. Or sometimes like me, you begin thinking that if only you had more time, more money, well behaved kids and a husband who helped out more around the house, then you would be happier.
Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way does it?
If you want to be the best Mom you can be you don’t need to do more or have more, you just need to be grateful. There was a scientific study conducted in which one group was asked to write down what they were grateful for on a weekly basis, while the other was asked to write down hassles or neutral life events. The group that wrote down what they were grateful for reported fewer physical symptoms, felt better about their lives as a whole and were generally more optimistic. While the other group had no positive feedback to offer.

It is amazing how just a simple adjustment in our attitude and outlook can change so much about how we view our life. The other day I really had to work on this and reminding myself to be thankful for the little girls I have running around the house. It is not easy when you're trying to cook dinner, write a blog post, manage everyones emotions (not to mention yours), and make sure no one dies. All this to say, if you want to keep your Joy, you have to remind yourself on a daily basis to be grateful. First thing in the morning (before coffee… yes I know thats a hard one) write down or think about all that you're grateful for. Try it for one day and see how much different your attitude changes. You’ll find that you have more energy; you're willing to do more for all those people that rely on you and better yet YOU WILL FEEL BETTER!
